Practice Description

Mr. Aide has been an attorney in the area of Intellectual Property since 1992 with the international law firm of Baker & McKenzie. From 1992 until 1998, Mr. Aide practiced in Baker & McKenzie’s Toronto office. From 1999 until July 2003, he continued his practice with Baker & McKenzie’s office in Frankfurt. In 2002, he became a Partner in the Firm’s German and Austrian offices. Mr. Aide returned to Baker & McKenzie’s Toronto office in 2003 in a partnership capacity with the Intellectual Property group. Mr. Aide specializes in non-contentious Intellectual Property, including Canadian prosecutions and oppositions, global trademark portfolio management, worldwide corporate branding availability, licensing and advising on domain name and Internet matters. He also has a strong focus upon running anti-counterfeiting programs for clientsinternationally , as well as providing litigation support for anti-counterfeiting actions concducted locally in Canada.

Representative Experience

  • Major global re-branding projects, including for two world leaders in the consulting field, as well as a German multinational energy concern and subsequent global trademark filing work.
  • Co-ordination of global and/or European trademark portfolios for various clients, including US-based global market leaders in the computer industry, a US medical supplies multinational, a Japanese multinational electronics company and a Liechtenstein-based multinational medical supplies company.
  • Successful prosecution of ICANN domain name dispute proceedings before the World Intellectual Property Organization, including for a German facilities management multinational.
  • Patent litigation support for a multi-billion dollar legal action defending a Japanese multinational electronics company.
  • Co-ordinating international anti-counterfeiting program for the leading Canadian standards non-profit entity in Asia, including raid strategy for the Canton Fair.
  • Litigation support for US-based global market leader in the computer industry for anti-counterfeiting actions in Canada.

Publications & Presentations

Mr. Aide has published numerous articles on various Intellectual Property topics. He also frequently speaks at various client and/or academic conferences and presentations, including in Canada, Germany, Spain, Switzerland, the USA and the UK.
